Glaucoma Care & Management
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that can cause irreversible damage to the optic nerve, often leading to vision loss — and in severe cases, blindness. It typically develops slowly and without noticeable symptoms in the early stages, which is why regular eye exams are essential.
At our clinic, we offer early detection, advanced diagnostics, and personalized treatment to preserve your sight and manage glaucoma effectively.
What Is Glaucoma?
Glaucoma is usually caused by increased pressure within the eye (intraocular pressure or IOP), which can damage the optic nerve. However, it can also occur with normal eye pressure.
There are several types of glaucoma, including:
-
Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma – The most common form; develops slowly and painlessly
-
Angle-Closure Glaucoma – A less common but more sudden and serious type
-
Normal-Tension Glaucoma – Optic nerve damage occurs despite normal IOP
-
Secondary Glaucoma – Caused by another eye condition or trauma
-
Congenital Glaucoma – Rare and present at birth
Symptoms of Glaucoma
Most forms of glaucoma are symptom-free in the early stages. As the disease progresses, you may notice:
-
Loss of peripheral (side) vision
-
Blurred vision
-
Halos around lights
-
Eye pain or redness (more common in angle-closure glaucoma)
-
Tunnel vision in advanced stages
How We Diagnose Glaucoma
Our glaucoma evaluations include advanced imaging and pressure tests, such as:
-
Tonometry – Measures intraocular pressure
-
OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) – High-resolution imaging of the optic nerve
-
Visual Field Testing – Assesses peripheral vision loss
-
Gonioscopy – Evaluates the drainage angle in the eye
-
Pachymetry – Measures corneal thickness
Treatment Options for Glaucoma
Although glaucoma damage can’t be reversed, early diagnosis and treatment can slow or prevent further vision loss. Treatment options include:
-
Prescription eye drops to lower eye pressure
-
Oral medications in certain cases
-
Laser therapy (e.g., SLT or LPI)
-
Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS)
-
Traditional surgical options for advanced or complex cases
Our team will recommend the right treatment plan based on the type and severity of your glaucoma.
